  1. Hi Evelyn,

Just wanted to say thankyou for your courage in preaching on the internet. I loved your previous post on women’s ministry, and feel exactly the same way as you. My family and I live in Australia, and the church here has exactly the same issues as you have mentioned. Many churches here are influenced by Hillsong which I am sure you have heard about. Churches have become lukewarm, preach false gospels. I went to a Baptist church recently where the full-time pastor told the very small congregation that ‘Australians aren’t interested in John 3:16 anymore’. He said we had to talk about ‘the problem of good and evil’ instead of preaching the gospel.

We spent 15 years in a ‘Christian cult’ which abused the congregation and preached that you were only saved if you obeyed the elders of the church. They have destroyed many marriages and families, not to mention laid stumbling blocks in the way of young people who have been psychologically and spiritually shipwrecked. I recently read Paul’s denunciation of false teachers in 2 Peter 2. We were under a curse for sure and it has taken us 12 years to recover from it.

There are so few teachers and preachers who even understand the gospel nowadays.

So thankyou for your testimony and your willingness to speak up.

    • Hello Steve =)

Thank you for stopping by. Yes, I have heard about Hillsong down in Australia. It is heart-breaking to watch the apostasy unfold, even though it was prophesied of in Scripture. It’s one thing to read about it in God’s word, but it is another thing entirely to see it play out. How horrible that some leaders would rather just talk about morality (the problem of good and evil) and shy away from the Gospel and mankind’s root problem (which is sin and separation from God). Of course many Australians won’t be interested in John 3:16 because the Gospel is foolishness to the world. But the Gospel is to be preached in season and out of season whether anyone wants to hear it or not. Preaching “moral conservatism” isn’t the Gospel. So sad to hear that marriages, families, and the psychological health and faith of young people was damaged and destroyed. This is why it is important to address spiritual abuse and cultic teachings and practices within professing Christian organizations and movements. I am glad that you and your wife have recovered from it. Many have not I’m afraid. Thank you for sharing your experience. God bless you in Jesus’ name
